Wonderful Return to the Flood/Ark Universe

After reading Flood on a flight I spent the first part of a vacation searching for a copy of Ark. Both books were incredible, but Ark and its interstellar journey (along with a brief look at a completely flooded Earth) was my favorite. When I discovered that Stephen Baxter published short stories expanding on the Flood/Ark universe I spent an indecent amount of time searching for the short stories online. I was able to read the first half of Earth II on its original publishers website, but that was it. The release of these short stories in one book completely made my summer. I was finally able to finish the story of Earth II, find out what happened to the children on Earth III and revisit Earth. This book is an absolute MUST HAVE for anyone who read Flood, devoured Ark, and desperately wanted to know what happened to humanity on its new homes.

If you loved Ark, learn what happened after

I found the stories a little slow and linear but incredibly rich in detail and culture. No complaints, since the author did clearly state this was an exercise in worldbuilding.

More importantly, it provided a fascinating insight into the two worlds settled by the Ark, and a conclusion I'd been wondering about since reading Flood and Ark, fantastic books. The third of these 3 stories wraps everything up very nicely and we learn what happened to Earth itself. Very satisfying.

Good but could be made better

No doubt, this book can really help to learn MyBatis. It covers installation, configuration and programming topics. Of course, there are some gaps in coverage. For example, a very important topic of using MyBatis with JNDI data sources is missing. But most of standard features is explained and demonstrated on examples. Unfortunately the source code for the book is not available and this was one of the reasons I reduced the ranking to 3 stars. Another reason is that I created an impression that the same text is being repeated in this book multiple times. Especially when some approach is explained step by step - it is very difficult to get rid of an impression that you have already seen this stuff, few pages before. I would advise the author to diversify the examples for this book. Another advice - this book could make a good reference if it was supplied with detailed glossary. I hope that author would consider these remarks for the next edition of his book. Overall, it is a good effort: developers really need tutorials on such a complex matter as MyBatis.

I'll happily buy the book if jars provided in pom.xml

I haven't bought the book and just looked over through the introduction chapter in the Kindle sample. The topic is intriguing, but I gotta say I've already had a complain: there's no maven configuration file (ie pom.xml) for the required jars, which make it a chore to collect all the jars in their respective correct versions necessary to run the code in this book. Maybe the author has an online repository somewhere? If so, please kindly let me know, and I'll be happily buy the book. Thanks in advance!

My daughter loves this book, and has made her poor grandfather read it about one thousand times, making it well worth our purchase price, it's fun, has games and activities and a few stories. my only wish is that is had more stories, but it's absolutely her favorite book right now, and she has no complaints. Utter Rubbish

This book was a swing and a miss.

The author, who apparently never passed English grammar ended almost every statement with an exclamation point! Even when the characters were supposedly whispering or murmuring - BAM - exclamation point. All those dramatics started getting a little irritating after the first few chapters, but even that I could have overlooked had the plot or even the characters developed into something worth reading. It didn't happen.

The idea behind the book was good, and hence the one star.

A PA (Kit) falls in love with her boss (Marcus). Marcus knows that someone is selling secrets to his competition (Catherine Grainger). Kit's big secret is that Catherine Grainger is her estranged grandmother and if Marcus were to find out about that connection, she knew that suspicion would automatically fall to her.

From the beginning Kit has downplayed her looks in the workplace so as not to give Marcus the wrong impression about her since all his PA's always end up making a play for him at some point. But during a weekend retreat, Kit is forced to leave her 'disguise' and Marcus finally notices that she is an attractive woman with a figure. At the end of the book, he tells her that he fell in love with her as soon as she no longer dressed like a maiden aunt.

Seriously? In essence what he is saying is that for the 6 months that she worked for him, her smart and witty personality did nothing for him, but he fell in love with her the minute he discovered she was pretty. I'm sorry, but WTH? I guess she better hope to never gain a pound or develop wrinkles because his 'love' is only based on her looks.

Their entire relationship seems to be based on mistrust, physical attraction, and deception. Are we supposed to believe that this couple stands a snowball's chance in hell?

As for the sex scenes...oh wait, there were none. That's right, you heard it. There was no sex. At one point he got to second base, but that was as far as their intimacy went.

So there you have it. We have overly dramatic characters, a weak plot execution, a shallow hero, and lukewarm love scenes. All in all, three hours of my life that I will never get back.

Good premise. I had high hopes for the plot of this book.Thinking it would deliver but delivery was terrible.
The writing sucked.
Don't buy this book.its a waste of money.

Dont waste your time.

After reading the book it was just boring and typical. Misunderstandings abound and the resolution only came after she became beautiful. Pretty common of the author.

Coming Home to Self

I have been studying the Pathwork lectures for the past two years in Grace Training facilitated by Gayle Straub. The suggested reading list contains all of Eva Pierrakos books. There are 34 of us studying the lectures and Pathwork of Self-Transformation is one of the main texts for understanding the shadow and lower self. There are very few books that delve as deeply into the inner workings of the unconscious. The masks we have acquired out of self protection are described in great detail. It is like reading the book of life and all we need to know and don't know how to ask. This book describes in a readable format very complex image distortions. These distortions and illusions appear very real to us. You can "see" yourself very clearly in each chapter. You will find yourself saying,"That's me. So that is why I do that." Uncovering and facing the self is very difficult without an unbiased third party as a sounding board. This book is the sounding board.

This is the best book on Spiritual growth by far!

Of all the books on the subject, this is the only one that successfully deals with the process of integrating the shadow and the lower aspects of the personality. The writing is very clear and filled with Love. The path, although not always an easy process, is nonetheless the only one that seems to work! I know that there really is no other way to bridge the "gap" between our normal, everyday consciousness and the awareness of our Higher Selves, than to face and walk through all the parts of ourselves that feel far removed from our Higher Selves. The way to heal oureslves is to face those parts, and let ourselves have a clean, full experience of them, instead of using various avoidance strategies to not confront ourselves in a disciplined and conscious way. This is just a small part of what's in this book, but for me that was a huge revelation, a major piece of the puzzle.
If you are at all serious about Spiritual growth, if you feel stuck in any way, if you find conventional methods of therapy are not quite doing it for you, you have to get this book! Get several copies and give them to your friends!

This is worth more than the bible ever could to me.

This book totally answered almost all of my questions about life. It CHANGED my life. I introduced it to my roommate, and we kept stealing it back and forth from each other. It is the single most important book I've ever read. It seriously changed my life- how I saw things, how I lived. It's background may make people a little skeptical, but I swear, if you read it, you will know... I don't care what the circumstances were for it's being written, it combed my soul and lifted me PERMANENTLY from the depression that was always lurking somewhere in my life.
