About the Author
Dr. Frederic (Ric) Martini received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in comparative and functional anatomy. His publications include journal articles, technical reports, magazine articles, and a book for naturalists about the biology and geology of tropical islands. He is the co-author of six other undergraduate texts on anatomy or anatomy & physiology. He is currently on the faculty of the University of Hawaii and remains affiliated with the Shoals Marine Laboratory, a joint venture between Cornell University and the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Martini is a member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society, the American Physiological Society, and the American Association of Anatomists. He is also a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the National Association of Biology Teachers, the Society for College Science Teachers, the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology, the Western Society of Naturalists, and the International Society of Vertebrate Morphologists.

So sweet

I enjoyed this book so much I read it in one setting. I felt Kevin was savvy enough to run an empire so he couldn't possibly be knocked off his feet by a by a common girl from a coffee shop, but the author was great at making things believable. I loved the chemistry between them I only wish the story was longer. I fell in love with the characters and would have loved to have learned how his father and x took the news of them being together

Rose Francis, I love it his story, blow me away what Naomi sister did, that was low. Kevin had me laughing loved that character and the way him and Naomi finally got busy, was hot, and had me wiggling around. Smoking hot great read going back for the next series. Truthfully this is one of those great stories that you read, then later reread, over and over again.

This worked wonderfully for our small group. We used it alongside the videos and they work perfectly together. I love that while this participant's guide does use material from the full book, it gives quotes so if a group member hasn't read the book they can still easily participate.

Clear and insightful compilation of well known and some lesser spotlighted military support vehicles and personnel carriers. Simply a "must have" reference for serious modelers, and an excellent coffee table resident for military vehicle fans.

Another excellent book by Hunnicutt. Don't let the price worry you, it's worth the $$. This work is more than just the story of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, it covers the history of the APC in US service from WWII to the present.
Excellent photos, line drawings, cut aways of all major PC's, as well as the varients. Prototypes as well as production models are covered. Mr. Hunnicutt is the premier expert on US Armored Fighting vehicles. Buy this and you'll see why.
I have read this many times already, learning something new each time.

Excellent review of the development of US APCs.

Once again, Mr. Hunnicutt gallops to the rescue with another superb book on the development of US armored fighting vehicles. Geez - as an Army Brat and former US armor officer, I remember most of these beasts too well - my Dad's M59 with its mechanical nightmare of two engines; my beloved G-66 M113A1 command personnel carrier; and that miserable M114A1E1 recon vehicle. It couldn't fight its way out of a wet paper sack, but it sure looked tough with that BIG Hispano Suiza 20mm gun. My only criticism (and it's very minor) - the author didn't provide enough operational photos of the M59 and M114. They were around a LONG time, and were much more important to the armored force than a casual reading of this book would indicate. What next from Mr. Hunnicutt? We are just about out of tracked vehicles.

Excellent commentary on the pre-labor movement and the rise of the Teamsters

First I highly recommend this book, Jimmy Hoffa: The Controversial Life and Disappearance of the Godfather of the Teamsters because of its description of the labor movement in the United States prior to the 1950s. There probably would never have been a Jimmy Hoffa if the majority the employers had treated their employees at least adequately if not decently. The book describes Jimmy Hoffa’s early life and the suffering his family underwent with the death of his father from black lung disease. Jimmy Hoffa was a short individual who may have suffered from the Napoleon complex because he learned early in life that he had to fight for everything he received including respect.
The book explained that has Hoffa rose in the union he had to make deals with organized crime to prevent organized crime criminals from conducting strike breaking activities (the book noted that many of the industrial leaders also had utilized these criminal elements to suppress workers attempting to join unions and striking). It’s not clear to me from the reading why Bobby Kennedy hated the Teamster union and Jimmy Hoffa in particular. The one thing that is clear is that Jimmy Hoffa hated the Kennedys has much or more than they hated him.

The why Jimmy Hoffa was killed was clearly to prevent him from re-taking over the leadership of the Teamsters. Again who killed Jimmy Hoffa the book will provide many suggestions. Another look at Hoffa

Living in the steel belt between Pittsburgh and Detroit in the late 60's and through the 70's the legend of Jimmy Hoffa and his associates was very strong a d off mentioned. There were, at that time, several establishments said to be connected with the labor leader.

Those stories don't surface as much when we revisit the area but the question of what happened to him persists. I have read several things about that portion of his life and mystery but was very pleased that this book took us back to his roots and beginnings. Very interesting to get the back story which, while not answering the questions surrounding his disappearance at least gives me a much clearer understanding of why and how Hoffa became the man he was.

This book gives an "abreviated" account of the life and currently unsolved dissapearance of one time teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa. It is well researched, well written and contains relatively few typos. I would recomend it as an introduction to the Hoffa story to be followed up by more in-depth works if so desired.

Examining the relationship between material goods and expressions of happiness and individuality in a society where even bananas were an alien luxury, Drakulic homes in on the eradication of female identity, drawing on her own experiences as well as broader cultural observations. Enforced communal housing that allowed for little privacy, the banishment of many time-saving devices, and a focus on manual labor left no room for such bourgeois affectations as cosmetics or clothes, but Drakulic’s remarkable exploration of the reality behind the rhetoric reveals that women still went to desperate lengths to feel “feminine.”

How We Survived Communism and Even Laughed also chronicles the lingering consequences of such regimes. The Berlin Wall may have fallen, but Drakulic’s power pieces testify that ideology cannot be dismantled so quickly; a lifetime lived in fear cannot be so easily forgotten.

Drakulic's fine collection of essays draws strength from her keen powers of observation and sensitivity to her readers' interests. Her achievement is to depict the starkly common identity of everyday life in socialist Eastern Europe before its unlamented loss becomes irretrievable. It is a world in which party authority can create the "sudden invisibility" for an offending journalist, where public buildings share a "shabbiness and color of sepia," and one that makes the post office an impenetrable "institution of power." The essays are also about people, about the obsessive " communist eye " (italics original) disturbed by the injustice of New York's homeless yet neurotically envious of those wearing fur coats at home. The tragic irony lies in the book's title. Hoarding material objects enabled people "to survive communism," but hoarding wartime memories and the inability to "let the dead be dead" may destroy the author's native Yugoslavia. A poignant and truthful look at what living under Communism was really like, by Croatian journalist and novelist Drakuli. The author, daughter of a former partisan who was a high- ranking Communist army officer, was never a member of the Party herself. Here, she conveys the reality of life under Communism through ordinary but telling detail: the wonder of a man who, for the first time in his life, was able to eat a banana--and ate it skin and all, marveling at its texture; Draculi's own bewilderment at finding fresh strawberries in N.Y.C. in December; the feel of the quality of the paper in an issue of Vogue; the desperate lengths to which women under the Communist regime would go to find cosmetics or clothes or something that would make them feel feminine in a society where such a feeling was regarded as a bourgeois affectation. Drakuli dismisses the argument that Western manufacturers have manipulated these needs: ``To tell us that they are making a profit by exploiting our needs is like warning a Bangladeshi about cholesterol.'' Though herself a feminist, she willingly turns amusing in describing the uncomprehending questions sent to her by a New York editor who asked about the role of feminism in political discourse in Eastern Europe, when there was no political discourse and when feminists were--and apparently still are--regarded as enemies of the people. ``We may have survived Communism,'' Drakuli writes, ``but we have not yet outlived it.'' I don't think this book is that well written. Sometimes one gets the impression that the author derives pleasure from painting a picture that was never that bad in old Yugoslavia. Why insist on comparing countries that were so different even in those days? Why dwell on unsavoury details about Golub loo-paper or the communist version of Tampaxes? They do nothing to help the reader understand the bygone era of so-called Communism. As for all the feminism, give us a break.....!

Not entirely accurate

In my opinion, Ms. Drakulic did exaggerate some things related to Yugoslavia (now abstract and gone). I guess this was done for the sake of keeping readers animated and interested in finishing the book. I do agree with the reader from Slovenia, as I was also born in the former Yugoslavia. Yes, we did occasionally have shortage of some items in the 80's, but not to the extent it was presented in this book. Not even close to her book "Cafe Europa", in terms of being informative about the Eastern Block (Warsaw Pact) countries, which by the way, Yugoslavia was never part of. This book will make readers, unfamiliar with the Eastern Europe, think just that.
