Arthur Imperator (Forgotten Emperor Book 2), by Paul Bannister

The Roman fleet has been defeated and the threat of invasion removed.

Arthur Britannicus has taken the throne as Imperator – Emperor of Britain.

He is a symbol of hope, uniting the fractious tribes of Britain who have been oppressed and mistreated for so long.

However, as the threat from Rome retreats, the intimidation from Saxon warlords intensifies.

Arthur must draw his sword and muster his forces again if he is to keep his island under British rule.

While Arthur builds his cavalry and trains up his army, his old enemy, Maximian, Augustus of the West, plots his downfall. Seething over Arthur’s execution of his general, Constantius, Maximian will look to take Arthur's kingdom - and his life.

War again seems inevitable, unlike victory.

Arthur Imperator combines myth with historical fact to tell the compelling story of the rise of a legendary British Emperor.

For fans of Tim Severin, Robyn Young and Simon Scarrow.

Tour de Force of 3rd century Britain military and Emperor Carausius, Arth, the Bear, who deserved never to be forgotten
By Coolfire
Author Paul Bannister in Arthur Imperator has again demonstrated his outstanding research abilities to reach back into dim ages and vividly describe, in detail, as it was. Whereas the book is fiction, it is a tour de force in well researched historic detail.

“Emperor Caesar Marcus Aurelius Mausaeus Carausius, Dutiful, Fortunate, the Unconquered”, (original in Latin, discovered Roman mile marker) - “Arth,” (from Ginas, first Britain written historian), Celtic for “The Bear,” was indeed very real, though little known to our modern age.

The coincidences between his brief bright comet across early Britain’s history are too many to rule out that he indeed may have been the origin of the Arthurian legends, for Ginas was the first by far to note the “Warrior of Battles,” Arth, the Bear. On his Roman coins, the face of the Bear looks as if it comes right out of his neck, the latter resembling the neck of a bear.

In Arthur Imperator Arthur serves as the vehicle for Roman, Saxon, and various tribes’ tactics, strategies, weapons, practices, living conditions, food, supply & material considerations, transport, intelligence, etc. This Arthur is written into the rich, detailed military environment of the time. Bannister focuses us upon that which Arthur himself must focus for strategic and tactical considerations, and does so constantly. This novel is not a love story; it’s a story of the toils of a man pulling together tribes while constantly fighting betrayals and invaders.

Understand, this series of books are historical framed within fiction, with some changes in sequences and fates of some of the historical players.

For those interested in some of the background of the real man, Carausius, the Bear, you will find the closing chapters, “Historical and other notes,” and “Arthur and Carausius: legend and links” well worth your time.

Privately, my first research paper, seemingly centuries ago, was written on Arthur, and I had never heard of Carausius. I sincerely thank author Paul Bannister for bringing to light a man who never should have been forgotten.

Killer follow-up ... in every sense of the word!
By The Duke of Dana Point
Been awaiting this since romping thro "Arthur Britannicus." Delighted to say the sequel more than stacks up. Blood and guts, valiant action, devious and tragic characters - I truly feel for the sorceress Caria; her exeunt left me in tears - while rip-roaring sea raider Grimr had me cheering like a madman. A hugely entertaining read, along with nice slices of obviously deeply researched history. Bannister puts you right there in the middle of it. (Caveat emptor - you will learn more about how to crucify someone than you might wanna know; and - short of the resurrection of the Roman Empire - certainly more than you will ever need.) If some Hollywood mover and shaker doesn't see the potential here ("Braveheart" south of the border, with a much bigger land- and seascape) there's no justice. Arthur rules!

Arthur Imperator
By Book Worm From Mission Viejo
I got hooked on Paul Bannister's thrilling and captivating series about King Arthur's battles in " Arthur Britannicus." The sequel is even more dazzling. The characters and scenes come alive thanks to all the gripping detail and colorful descriptions. This book is undoubtedly the closest I would like to be in fighting the Romans! Great history of what it was like to live in that time.
Thank you, Paul, for another great read.
